At Freename, we’re excited to announce our plans to participate in the upcoming ICANN gTLD (generic Top-Level Domains) registration round. We’re aiming to secure some game-changing domain extensions like .chain, .token, .metaverse, and many others. Beyond applying for our own TLDs, we’ll also be representing a select group of third-party customers in this round—though we’re keeping those partnerships under wraps for now. We’ve carefully chosen these collaborations to ensure that each TLD will have a meaningful impact, and all of these Web3 domains will also exist in the traditional DNS space, making them even more versatile.
Building on Strategic Partnerships and Industry Expertise
This move is possible thanks to the strong relationships we’ve built with key players in the domain industry. One of the biggest milestones for us has been our partnership with ShortDot, an ICANN-accredited registry. Together, we’ve launched WebUnited, a joint venture designed to blend the best of Web2 domains with the blockchain-driven future of Web3. This kind of collaboration strengthens our position as we move forward with the ICANN gTLD program and solidifies our leadership in the space.
We’re also proud to be the first Web3 Registrar with ICANN accreditation. This means we’re able to offer both traditional DNS domain names and tokenized Web3 domains, combining our expertise in Web3 with the latest in domain tokenization technology. According to 2024 stats, we’re the top Web3 Registrar, and we’re ready to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the domain world.
